Description
Peterborough Crane Hire was established in 1981 by Stuart Smith with the purchase of a 25 tonne telescopic mobile crane. From one crane the company now has 20 cranes ranging from 12 tonnes to 200 tonnes. The largest of our cranes is the Demag AC200-1 with 100 metres under the hook, we also operate a Demag AC100-1 and ranging down to a Grove AP415 'low headroom crane' for factory work. Our cranes are backed up by our transport and service departments. Stuart oversees the day to day running of the company assisted by brother Trevor on the hire desk. From inception to present day we have endeavoured to provide a first class service.

All crane hire companies work to the terms and conditions of the CPA (Construction Plant Hire Association) and in accordance with BS7121 (The Safe Use of Cranes). We can offer the option to hire on a CPA Crane Hire or CPA Contract Lift basis.

CPA Crane Hire
Under the terms of a standard CPA crane hire agreement, the crane and operator are the responsibility of the customer when the crane leaves the public highway to gain access to the site. This includes any access roadway if the site is not adjacent to the public highway. The customers Appointed Person is responsible for the planning of the lifting operation and personnel and equipment used. Also the customer is required under CPA model conditions to provide insurance cover for the following;

1. Loss or damage to plant and equipment whilst on site.
2. Loss or damage t the goods being lifted.
3. Legal liability arising from crane operations.

It is the customer’s responsibility to provide an Appointed Person to fully plan and supervise the crane operation.
We must supply a competent operator and a crane fit for the work intended.

CPA Contract Lift
Under the terms of a standard Contract Lift, all personnel and equipment including the Appointed Person are the responsibility of the crane owner. The crane owner is responsible for all aspects of the lifting operation and provides insurance cover for loss of or damage to plant caused by negligence of the lifting operation. Damage to third party property caused by negligence of the lifting operation subject to a maximum liability of £10.000 in respect of goods being lifted, and a maximum of £2 million in respect of loss of or damage to third party property or persons. The customer is still responsible to provide adequate ground conditions and adequate information about the goods being lifted.
